“Designed by Brian
May, the Lite Owl is so small, thin and light that it can be slipped into a
pocket or worn round the neck with a cord so that it is always at hand.
It can be used to view modern or vintage stereocards, stereo illustrations in
books and magazines but also 3-D videos and even VR content on your
smartphone.”
Designed by Brian May, the Lite Owl is so small, thin and light that it can be slipped into a pocket or worn round the neck with a cord so that it is always at hand. This can prove very useful when you are visiting a photo fair and you do not want to constantly put your viewer down and pick it up each time you are looking at cards, or to run the risk of leaving it behind. It is also very handy in exhibitions that display framed stereos as you can walk around and see every image in glorious 3-D without having to wait for your turn to use the provided viewers (if any).
The Owl Lite can be used to view modern or vintage stereocards but also stereo illustrations in books and magazines. You can also use the Lite Owl to look at side-by-side stereos, 3-D videos and even VR content on your smartphone. It is not bigger than the average smartphone (134×64 mm) and since it is only 3mm thick the phone and the viewer can fit snuggly into the same pocket.
The lenses of the Lite Owl are the same diameter as those of its larger counterpart and accommodate any interpupilar distance. Since it is hand held focusing is very easy and people with different types of vision can, after a few minutes of practice, find the viewing distance that suits them best, and if you are wearing glasses there should be no need to take them off.
The Lite Owl is bound to become your next best 3-D viewing friend.
Added comments
:
I would like to comment on two reviews of this viewer.
1. One reviewer writes: “
The optical quality seems low, much worse than the full size Owl viewer
.” My understanding is that the two viewers use the same exactly lenses. So this is definitely not true.
2. Another reviewer says that the focusing distance is too close to view the stereoviews comfortably. I agree with this. Sometimes I struggle too. I have brought this to the attention of the manufacturer. This viewer (and the bigger on e too) would work better with longer focal length lenses. It varies with the size of the stereo image and might vary from individual to individual too. Some people can fuse the larger images easier.
